Vegawon’s Legacy Devlog #2 – November 2024

Dear Vegawon’s Legacy fans,


In November, we had an intense and productive working period for Vegawon's Legacy. We both strengthened our technical infrastructure and introduced many innovations that will enrich the player experience. Here are the important developments of this month:




Land of the Crescent: Games from Türkiye Steam Festival

We updated our Steam page for the Games from Turkey Steam Festival. While making the page description more engaging and professional, we added new cover images and screenshots to attract potential players. In the images, we included scenes that highlight the aesthetic world and gameplay mechanics of the game.


More Modular and Scalable AI System

To streamline future development, we implemented a new modular AI system. This system allows all basic enemies and bosses to be derived from a single base class, making it easier to expand and refine behaviors. With this new structure, we can create more complex and dynamic enemy interactions while significantly speeding up the development process. The updated AI system also lays the foundation for more innovative and adaptive boss battles, ensuring they remain engaging and unpredictable for players.


DWS Sound Manager Updates

Our custom-built DWS Sound Manager received substantial updates and bug fixes this month. We resolved issues such as audio overlaps and settings not saving properly. Additionally, we revamped the user interface to be more intuitive and user-friendly, streamlining workflows for sound designers and developers alike. These updates ensure a smoother and more efficient audio design process, enhancing both creativity and functionality.



New Injured System

We introduced a new Injured System to enhance the gameplay’s tactical depth and emotional intensity. Now, when the player's health falls below 20%, their character will enter an injured state. This state includes:

  • A 30% reduction in movement speed, emphasizing the character's weakened condition.

  • Unique idle and movement animations that visually depict the injury.

This system encourages players to reconsider their survival strategies and adds a layer of tension to critical moments. The animations are meticulously designed to reflect the character's vulnerability and create a more immersive experience.


New Landing System

We’ve added a new landing animation to enhance the feeling of impact when falling from a certain height. Now, when the player drops from a significant height, a short "recovery" animation will play. This animation provides a moment of visual recovery, reinforcing the feeling of realism and adding an extra layer of immersion to the player’s movement dynamics



First Boss: The Dark Knight

We’re excited to unveil the first boss of the game, The Dark Knight, a formidable adversary designed to leave a lasting impression:

  • The battle unfolds across three distinct phases, each introducing new attack patterns and strategies.

  • The boss utilizes unique behavior trees in each phase, requiring players to adapt and think strategically.

This challenging and dynamic encounter sets a high bar for future boss fights, combining intense combat mechanics with engaging design to deliver a thrilling experience.


New Environment Designs and Artistic Enhancements

Our art team has been working hard to further deepen the mystical world of Mount Petra. New backgrounds, ground designs, and environmental elements (props) have been added to the Crypt of Petra, Foothills of Petra, and Mt. Petra Mine regions. These areas have been redesigned with different aesthetic languages ​​to create a dark and enchanting atmosphere. Each area has been enhanced with detailed visuals and impressive compositions. The new environmental elements provide a visual experience that further engages players in the sense of discovery and adds to the atmosphere of the story.


Input System Improvements

To enhance gameplay fluidity, we made significant improvements to the input system:

  • Input buffering was implemented, allowing for better responsiveness during fast-paced actions like attacks and jumps. This ensures that player inputs are recognized more consistently, even in high-action moments.

  • Every attack can now be canceled regardless of the situation

  • Additional fine-tuning was applied to movement and attack controls, offering greater precision and a more seamless feel.

These updates provide a smoother and more responsive control experience, ensuring that gameplay remains both engaging and intuitive.




Physics System and Technical Optimizations

We conducted an extensive review and optimization of the physics system, addressing inconsistencies in physical interactions and refining overall performance. These efforts resulted in:

  • A more fluid gameplay experience, with reduced hitches and glitches.

  • no more sliding enemies or items on the ground

  • Improved realism in physical interactions, ensuring that movements and environmental reactions feel natural.
